Counselling & Psychotherapy

Why Counselling?

Many different events will impact our lives, most of the time we can deal with them, other times we cannot. A difficult childhood, the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, an illness or accident, a toxic work environment, sexuality & gender, unemployment, the current pandemic affecting our world or just being at a new stage of our lives can cause us to feel lost within ourselves and the wider world. This can lead to anxiety or depression, it can affect our self-esteem and disconnect us from everyone around us, leaving us isolated and alone.

There are times in our lives when family and friends cannot help us with our issues, they may not understand the problem or they may be too close to see it without bias, we may fear opening up about something because we do not know the right way to talk about a subject without upsetting the listener, or feeling embarrassed. This is where talking to a trained therapist can help.

Counselling can bring many benefits. Most importantly it can reassure you that you are not alone and will give you the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. We all deserve to feel that life is to be enjoyed rather than endured, and counselling can help you build resilience and give you the tools and resources to better deal with the challenges that life will inevitably bring you.

Starting counselling can feel daunting or scary, so it is important to be clear about why you wish to embark on this journey in this moment and also to recognise that it is a process that can take time. Whatever has brought you to this point – stresses at work, relationship problems, struggling with your mental health and well-being, or perhaps a lack of confidence or a feeling of being lost – it is where you go from here that matters.

I will work with you to explore and understand the stories and events in your life that can limit and constrain your personal growth and development and together we will explore the stories and events that can build your confidence, resilience and personal power and help you get back on track on your life journey.

Services

Face To Face

Face to face counselling sessions enable us to establish a therapeutic relationship built on trust and safety.

Zoom

It is not always possible to attend a session in person. Online counselling is a flexible, convenient alternative in real time. It allows us to still build a safe therapeutic relationship despite not being in the same room.

Telephone

Where required, telephone counselling is also offered. If this is your first time seeking counselling or finding a private place to be able to open up is difficult, telephone counselling may be the best way for us to start working together.
